About George Classen

"George Classen’s world of art is dominated by a profound knowledge of classical music and ancient history, transforming his inspiration into endless variations of form and colour, fusing the acoustic with the visual." Miami Herald, 1991 Born in 1942 in Berlin, Germany, George Classen was an early devotee of Albrecht Duerer. At the age of seven, he started his first graphic exercises by copying the famous engravings of the old German Master from Nuremberg. It did not take him long, though, to indulge in his very own imaginative ideas. He was inspired by the brilliant artworks of Picasso, Klimt and other masters of that time. He was careful not to copy them, but to transform the inspiring impact into his own unique style. At the age of thirteen, he discovered his second passion: classical music. From thereon music continued to dominate his search for perfection in the visual arts. His obsession with music is well reflected in his very individualistic approach to the structure of his visual compositions. "George Classen’s works show traits of abstract, cubist and occasionally surrealist art (e.g. Robert Delaunay, Pablo Picasso). Some of his works have an ornamentation that resembles works of art nouveau and, in terms of painting technique, resembles works by Gustav Klimt or works by Friedensreich Hundertwasser." Fr.
